For scientists

The participants (mainly from European countries) introduced new research results in ultra weak photon emission from biological samples.
When two merge into one, it always brings more options. This can also be applied in the field of modern technology. What happens when we combine a laser and an optical fiber? We get a fiber laser - a source of a very intense and quality radiation beam, which has many applications.
Europhysics News published an extract from our article called "Graphite/CdMnTe Schottky diodes and their electrical characteristic" in the Highlights from European Journals part of the magazine.
The two-day event was held in the conference room at Hotel DAP in Prague. The Technical Meeting of COST Action TD1001 (OFSeSa) was in the form of lectures on fiber sensors. A meeting of the Steering Committee of TD1001 took place at the end of the first day.
Jiří Homola, director of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the AS CR, v. v. i., has been appointed professor of physics - quantum optics and optoelectronics - on the proposal of the Scientific Council of the Charles University in Prague, with the effect from 1 March, 2014.
Ondřej Kučera, a postdoctoral researcher of our Bioelectrodynamics team, was awarded the Werner von Siemens Award for the best doctoral dissertation in 2013
The TA ČR 2013 for the category of Original solution was awarded to the project entitled "Optical Packet Switch" on the creation of which our institute participated.

Listen to the recording about research and the use of fiber lasers - with Pavel Peterka, Ph.D., a scientist at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics
The presentation focused on two nanofabrication methods that we have developed, namely, template stripping for making ultra-smooth patterned metals and atomic layer lithography for making atomic-scale nanogaps toward applications in nanoplasmonic sensing and spectroscopy.
