banner-cs.jpg PUBLIC COLLECTION OF IMG AS CR, V. V. I. On August 6th, 2014, the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the AS CR, v. v. i., (IMG) opened a public collection aimed to help 14-year-old Katareeya Epp, who is suffering from a severe form of cancer. Her parents are employed in the IMG (project BIOCEV).

Because Katareeya originates from a “third country”, namely, Australia, according to the Czech legislation she is not entitled to healthcare support from the public healthcare insurance.

BIOCEV

prof. Ing. Josef Lazar, Dr.

(born in 1965 Bratislava)

doc. Ing. Josef Lazar, Dr.

In 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology, in the field of electrical measurement and automation. He continued in postgraduate doctoral studies at the Brno University of Technology, in the field of electronics, which was completed in 1996 with the defence of his dissertation "Detection Techniques in Saturated Absorption Spectroscopy and their Employment in Laser Frequency Stabilization". In 2009, he was appointed Reader after defending his habilitation thesis "Highly coherent semiconductor lasers".

From 1996, he was the leader of the team of Coherent Semiconductor Lasers and Their Application and in 1998 through 2003 Head of the Laboratory of Highly Coherent Lasers and Nanotechnology of the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the ASCR, v. v. i. In 2003, he became the head of the section of Coherent Optics. He has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the ASCR, v. v. i., since 1997 and a member of its council since 2007. In 2001 through 2003, he was Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the ASCR, v. v. i.; in 2003 through 2006 he was it Chairman.

In 1989 through 1996, he dealt with the issue of He-Ne lasers and their stabilisation, the stabilisation of 543 nm He-Ne lasers in an emission line of Ne and study of the polarisation stability of modes. He further dealt with the development of the two-mode frequency 543 nm He-Ne laser for the needs of two-colour interferometry and stabilisation of the 543 nm He-Ne laser via saturated absorption in iodine vapours and the implementation of a standard of an optical frequency for this wavelength. He worked as a researcher on the development of two-colour interferometry and refractometry with a synthetic wavelength using He-Ne lasers operating at wavelengths of 543 and 633 nm and on the application of semiconductor lasers in interferometry and profilometry. In cooperation with the PALS Research Centre, he developed together with the team of the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the ASCR, v. v. i., a stabilised laser "master oscillator" based on the semiconductor laser for the new configuration of the pulsed output laser. In cooperation with the Czech Metrology Institute, the development of a laser standard of the optical frequency in the telecommunications band with a semiconductor laser took place. He further participated in the development of a power semiconductor laser for optical pumping with an external resonator, nanometrological systems based on microscopy with a local probe and with interferometric measurement with subnanometre resolution. In cooperation with an industrial partner oriented on mechanical measurement systems, he prepared the proposal of an interferometre for the calibration of position sensors and an interferometric system based on interferometry with low coherence for the measurement and calibration of gauge blocks.
