In 1983, she obtained a degree in biochemistry at the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague and began her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Microbiology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In 1985, she became a research assistant at the Institute of Physiology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and in 1988 earned a CSc. in biochemistry. In 1988, she began working in the Department of Membrane Transport of the Institute of Physiology (formerly the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, today's ASCR, v. v. i.) and has led this department since 2006. In 2001, she earned a DrSc. in biochemistry.
In the 1990s, she spent a total of four years at the Institut de Biologie Moleculaire et Cellulaire CNRS and at the University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg. In 1997-98, she completed a three-month stay at the Institute of Cellular Physiology at UNAM in Mexico.
Since 1985, H. Sychrová has been actively involved in the study of the structure, activity and physiological role of cell transport systems. She is a member of the subject area boards for the doctoral study programmes of three faculties at two higher education institutions, a supervisor of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics and cell biology. She is the author of more than 90 original scientific publications in international journals with an IF. She has been the principal investigator or co-investigator of twenty projects from national grant agencies and seven international projects. She is a member of the editorial boards of two international journals and has participated in the organisation of several scientific conferences. H. Sychrová is also a member of the councils of four institutes of the ASCR and Supervisory board of one institute of the ASCR; in 2007-2010 she was a member of the Supervisory Committee of the Academic Assembly of the ASCR and currently is a member of the Expert Commission for Life Sciences of the R&D&I Council.

PUBLIC COLLECTION OF IMG AS CR, V. V. I. On August 6th, 2014, the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the AS CR, v. v. i., (IMG) opened a public collection aimed to help 14-year-old Katareeya Epp, who is suffering from a severe form of cancer. Her parents are employed in the IMG (project BIOCEV).
Because Katareeya originates from a “third country”, namely, Australia, according to the Czech legislation she is not entitled to healthcare support from the public healthcare insurance.
