BIOCEV

Digitization of the Bibliography of Czech and Slovak Prints from the Most Ancient Times to the End of the 18th Century

One of the main tasks of the Institute for Classical Studies is the project of the database Clavis monumentorum litterarum Regni Bohemiae (CML). The aim of the project is the research on the cultural heritage of the Czech lands up to 1800. The main part of the project is the digitizing of Knihopis českých a slovenských tisků od doby nejstarší až do konce XVIII. století.

For a couple of years the team of the Documentation department of the Institute for Classical Studies was converting the printed Knihopis into an electronic form. The result of their work was a large tagged text file which was prepared to be converted into a kind of a database. The SQL version of the system Clavius was chosen as the suitable database source since it is capable enough to allow many users to access the data at the same time. The system is also flexible enough to meet all our needs. For the present the database makes accessible the text passages: the transcription of a title-page and the information on the deposition of the books in various institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad. At the present time we prepare more detailed specification of the prints.
