Transformations of Social Elites During the Period of Emergence of the Early Medieval Czech State

The project is aimed to analyze and present the material from the burial-grounds inside (Klecany II) or outside important early medieval hillforts (Roztoky-Žalov I, II-Levý Hradec, Klecany I) and try to identify their mutual relations. There are graves with spurs, silver and golden jewellery indicating the ruling elite in these burial-grounds.The entire archaeological and environmental evidence will be ana-lysed and the data (incl. magnetometry, aerial photography, trial trenching, paleobotany, paleopatol-ogy, DNA bone tests and RFA tests) processed and studied in relation to other sites of the period, es-pecially in the territory between Levý Hradec and the Prague Castle. In the case of not well known hillfort Klecany will be reconstruct the origin and new role of the hillfort in the historic context of 10th century Bohemia. Analysis of burial grounds will allow the formulation of new hypothesis about social stratification of the burial grounds. Total we want publish about 320 graves.
