Vítězslav Jarý, a PhD student in the Institute of Physics AS CR, has won the first prize in the H. Becquerel competition. He is involved in the Nuclear Chemistry program at FNSPE, CTU and is working on the scintillation mechanisms in the materials based on complex oxides. His studies are focused, in particular, on the problems of energy capture and energy transfer. His work is supervised by Dr. Martin Nikl, head of the Department of Optical Materials (Institute of Physics).
The H. Becquerel prize is awarded by the AREVA company together with French Embassy in Prague. The aim of this award is to stimulate Czech PhD students – at the beginning of their scientific career – and to recognize their successful research activity in the development of utilization of nuclear energy. Beside financial contribution, the prize includes a support for one-month stay in a French research laboratory of the grantee’s choice.
The award celebration was organized at the French Embassy in the Czech Republic on September 7, 2011.
