Laboratory of Phase Transition Kinetics

Laboratory of Phase Transition Kinetics (LPTK) studies the progress of phase transitions with respect to time, especially during the formation of a phase, otherwise known as nucleation, and thermophysical properties of fluids with special focus on thermodynamically metastable states. The LPTK group is interested in formation of droplets and ice crystals within the steam turbines and fuel cells, respectively, creation of atmospheric aerosols, and in cavitation leading to the erosion damage of pumps. The LPTK members are involved in activities of the International Association for Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) where they investigate thermophysical properties, phase equilibria and phase transitions of aqueous systems and gas hydrates.
