MUDr. Jiří Vaněček, DrSc.

Jiri Vanecek graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague (1976). He received his PhD in physiology from the Institute of Physiology, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1982). He worked in the Institute of Physiology till 2002. He spent postdoctoral fellowship in the Laboratory of Developmental Neuroscience, National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA, and later frequently worked in this and other foreign laboratories as a visiting scientist. He has worked in the fields of circadian and seasonal rhythms, neuroendocrinology and cell biology and studied regulation of melatonin synthesis in the pineal gland and mechanisms of melatonin action in the cell. He has published more than 80 primary research papers in various international journals. In 1998 he has defended the title DSc and received the Award of the Czech Scientific Society for his achievements in biomedical research. Mr. Vanecek works in the Technology Centre since 2003. He is a member of the group of Strategic Studies, where he is responsible for the field of life sciences.
