Angus Deaton, Former ESC Member, Wins BBVA Foundation Award

May 22, 2012

The Spanish-based BBVA Foundation has awarded its fourth "Frontiers of Knowledge" Award in the category of Economics, Finance and Management to British economist Angus Deaton, who is a professor at Princeton University and who also previously served as a member of the CERGE-EI Executive and Supervisory Committee (ESC) from 1996-1999.

The distinguished award was given for the fourth time, for "his fundamental contributions to the theory of consumption, savings and the measurement of economic wellbeing," in the words of the award citation. The jury said that Deaton's research "applies rigorous methods to important real-world issues. Throughout his career, his work has been characterized by an attempt to understand empirical evidence in terms of a clearly articulated theoretical structure and attention to the behavior underlying the data."

CERGE-EI offers its sincere congratulations to Professor Deaton and again thanks him for his service to CERGE-EI's continuing development.
