This talk is devoted to the basic introduction into magneto-optical phenomena and their applications in the characterization of magnetic materials. Different approaches to measurement of magneto-optical angles will be compared and their advantages and disadvantages discussed. The efficiency of magneto-optical spectroscopy will be demonstrated on the research of interface effects, microscopic structure or magnetic anisotropies in various magnetic materials and nanostructures.
