Tomas Jungwirth elected a member of the Academy of Europe

Tomáš Jungwirth from the Institute of Physics ASCR was elected this year a member of the Academy of Europe (Academia Europaea). This prestigious institution was founded in 1988 as an international non-governmental association of European scientists and scholars who are leading experts in their fields. The Academy’s mission is to encourage the highest possible standards in scholarship, research and education, to promote a wider appreciation of the value of European scholarship and research, and to promote a better understanding among the public of the benefits of knowledge and learning, and of scientific and scholarly issues which affect society, its quality of life and its standards of living. Currently the Academy of Europe has about 3000 members from the physical sciences and technology, biological sciences and medicine, mathematics, the letters and humanities, social and cognitive sciences, economics and the law. Jiří Niederle from the Institute of Physics ASCR was one the 165 former and current members of the physical sciences and technology section. Currently, besides Tomas Jungwirth, Czech Republic has to other members of this section (Jiří Bičák a Pavel Exner).
