Research Center for Cell Therapy and Tissue Repair

The project „Research Center for Cell Therapy and Tissue Repair“ is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Prague Competitiveness Operational Programme and the State Budget of the Czech Republic; the owner and operator of the Center is the Institute of Experimental Medicine ASCR.

Currently under construction (2012) on the campus of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague-Krč, the Center is a response to the growing need to introduce Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (cell therapy, DNA-containing therapeuticals, medical nanotechnology) into clinical medicine; this is complicated by the lack of capacity for basic research into their safety, efficacy and innovative analytical methods. The new building of the Center is immediately adjacent to the existing Innovative Biomedical Center of the IEM, which houses a business incubator for biomedical spin-off companies.

When completed, the Center will be equipped with secure laboratories, enabling research into advanced therapeuticals and participation in both Czech and EU grants; the project extends the previous activities of the IEM in advanced treatment methods and related research projects. Through the implementation of the project, the IEM will create new infrastructure – a modern center focused on basic research in the field of advanced therapy medicinal products, the use of nanotechnology in medical practice and the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of these interdisciplinary fields.

The project meets all of the specific target areas of support 3.1, which is to improve the innovation infrastructure in Prague, allowing for a greater potential for research and development, strengthening cooperation between the R & D base and other entities in the city, and improving the practical application of research and development in direct relation to small and medium-sized enterprises.
