Visiting Master's

We offer Master’s students from other universities a chance to visit CERGE-EI for a semester or a year. Visiting students take courses in our western-style PhD in Economics program. This scheme is primarily designed for academically motivated Master’s students who are considering studying for a PhD in Economics and pursuing careers in the global academic sector or international organizations.

Visiting Master’s from Czech and Slovak universities

Master’s students from Czech or Slovak universities can apply to visit CERGE-EI. Prior to applying, you must

Visiting Master’s from Institute of Economic Studies, Charles University

CERGE-EI runs a special Visiting Master’s scheme jointly with the Institute of Economic Studies (IES) of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Prague. Students enrolled in the two-year Master's program "Economic Theory" at IES may apply to visit CERGE-EI.

The scheme combines Master’s-level courses at IES with PhD-level courses at CERGE-EI. As a result, IES Master’s students visiting CERGE-EI:

  • obtain their Master's degree in Economics from IES
  • complete the 1st year of PhD coursework at CERGE-EI including General exams, and may proceed to the 2nd year of the CERGE-EI PhD program if they wish

Visiting Master’s take the 1st-year PhD courses at CERGE-EI as equivalents of IES courses and receive credits. For example, CERGE-EI’s PhD course “Microeconomics I" would be recognized as equivalent to IES’s Masters-level course “Microeconomics.” Find out how to apply.
