A two-year postdoctoral position within the Academic Human Resource Programme of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is available in one of the research teams in the Institute of Mathematics AS CR in Prague or in Brno.

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their Ph.D. after 1st July 2012 (maternity/paternity leave will be taken into account). Applicants who have not yet obtained their Ph.D. must produce evidence that their thesis will be defended before 1st July 2015.

Postdoc in the Mathematical Thermodynamics of Fluids

A three-year postdoctoral position is available within the framework of the European Research Council Advanced Grant Mathematical Thermodynamics of Fluids (MATHEF) under the direction of Prof. Eduard Feireisl. The successful candidate will be based in the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague, performing mathematical research on the part of the project devoted to the mathematical theory of the Navier-Stokes-Fourier and related systems. The successful applicant is expected to develop numerical methods for solving various flow problems related to the dynamics of compressible and heat conducting fluids. The task will include analysis of discretization methods and their implementation with emphasis on efficiency, robustness and reliability. Close interaction with the model development and analysis part of the project is expected. The applicant is also expected to take part in the activities of the research group of the Institute of Mathematics ASCR, in particular, the seminars, international schools, and workshops.

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their Ph.D. within the last 6 years (or will complete their Ph.D. degree by the end of April 2015), and who have strong background in the mathematical theory and numerical solution of partial differential equations, including good knowledge of numerical methods.
