Apply to Visiting Master's
The application deadline is 20 August. Currently we are accepting applications for admission in September 2015.
Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, financial mathematics, statistics, physics, or related fields obtained by September 2015.
- Strong background in mathematics.
- Previous education in economics is not required but desirable.
- Sufficient competence in English to complete English-taught courses.
The application deadline is 20 August, 2015.
Required Materials
By August 20, 2015 you should:
1. Apply and be admitted to your preferred Master’s program. Either
- Apply to the Master's program Economic Theory at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Science of Charles University, Prague, by filling out the IES application form by 28 February, 2015. The IES application fee is 450 CZK. Please note that the IES Master's program is taught in Czech only.
- Or apply to a Master’s program (in Economics or a closely related field) at another Czech or Slovak university, and arrange the conditions of your Visiting Master’s stay at CERGE-EI including the recognition of grades.
2. Send the following documents in electronic form (scans of originals) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. :
- Your letter of admission to the Master’s program at your university.
- Application supplement indicating that you wish to enroll in the Visiting Master’s scheme.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Statement of motivation: 1000-2000 word statement in English explaining your academic background, interests and career goals, and how the Visiting Master’s scheme will help you meet your objectives. Please see the Statement of Motivation Guidelines.
- A notary-verified copy of your Bachelor's degree diploma. If you expect to receive your diploma after the Visiting Master's application deadline, please submit an official confirmation from your university saying that there are no obstacles to your graduation and that you are expected to graduate, e.g., by the end of June of this year (specifying when the diploma will be issued).
- A notary-verified copy of your Bachelor's degree transcript. If you graduate after the Visiting Master's scheme application deadline, submit your current academic transcript.
- Other relevant documents that may increase your chances of being admitted to the Visiting Master's scheme, such as additional study records, certificates, diplomas, etc.
- You are encouraged to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or other certified English language exam scores, as well as GRE, GMAT, or other proficiency test scores.
3. Send the following documents in paper copy to the address below:
- Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic background, provided in sealed envelopes with the recommender's signature written across the seal (form available here, download to fill in electronically).

Admissions Process
Applicants currently studying at IES should proceed to Special Rules for IES Students section below.
Students from other Czech and Slovak universities:
- Upon submitting your application, it will be considered by the CERGE-EI Admissions Committee for the Visiting Master’s scheme.
- In early September, you will be notified whether or not you are admitted to the Visiting Master’s scheme at CERGE-EI.
Special Rules for IES Students
The admissions procedure is greatly simplified for students obtaining their Bachelor's degree from IES.
- Follow the IES procedure for transferring from the Bachelor's to the Master's program.
- If you are admitted to the Master’s program at IES and intend to take the Visiting Master's option, email the Application Supplement and your Bachelor’s degree transcript to CERGE-EI: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . The deadline is 20 August, 2015.
- In early September, you will be notified whether you will be admitted to the Visiting Master’s scheme at CERGE-EI. In the past, all students successfully completing the Bachelor's degree in Economics at IES have been admitted.
