The department’s employees successfully assisted with a technology transfer for the Czech firm, Viscon, s. r. o., which specialises in identification and deployment of new technologies for its clients. Viscon was interested in technologies of the Swedish firm, Botek Systems AB, for registering and weighing waste using the principle “pay according to weight”. It is an intelligent electronic system that uses customer identification to charge for waste collection exactly according to the type and volume of collected waste. This principle motivates customers to separate their waste and to lower the amount of non-separated waste. The European Commission for the environment estimates that by applying this principle an overall increase of 25–40% in recycling of communal waste can be achieved. VISCON, s. r. o., is now able to offer its clients a proven system that significantly lowers the costs of waste separation.
