Postdoctoral Fellow - Synthetic Nanochemistry on Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

Who we are Synthetic Nanochemistry Research Group lead by Petr Cigler focuses on nanoparticle research and its application in medicinal chemistry. Current projects are oriented on synthesis and development of multimodal imaging and theranostic probes from a wide range of synthetic nanoparticles, including fluorescent nanodiamonds.

The Position
The research plan directs at creation of modular architectures on fluorescent diamond nanoparticles. The successful candidate will be involved in development of new nanodiamond-based platforms for the construction of nanobiosensors with extremely photostable fluorescence. The position is available starting November 1, 2014. It will be funded by IOCB and it is initially limited to one year with possible extension.

The postdoctoral fellow will

  • Prepare monodisperse fluorescent nanodiamonds with hydrophobic monolayers and lipid double layers and search for the optimum conditions for dynamical modification of these layers with lipophilic ligands.
  • Modify nanodiamonds with biocompatible copolymers - poly(hydroxypropyl)methacrylamides.
  • Perform fluorescence studies of nanodiamonds and analyze their physical-chemical properties by quasielastic light scattering, zeta potential, transmission electronic microscopy, gel permeation chromatography and other methods.
  • Be expected to publish the data in top journals, attend international meetings and interact with collaborating groups.

Who you are
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with a demonstrated track record in basic research. Your further qualifications are:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, material science or related fields
  • Expertise in work with nanoparticles
  • A good publication record and excellent bench skills
  • Excellent English communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team

To apply, please send a motivation letter, your CV with a complete list of publications and the contact information of two references to Petr Cigler (cigler@uochb.cas.cz). Deadline for application is September 19, 2014.

Postdoctoral positions in Dr. Tomáš Kraus group

The team of targeted research lead by Dr. Tomáš Kraus opens 2 positions for postdoctoral fellows starting August 2014. The project solved by the team aims at the development of molecular transporters that are capable of delivery of organic compounds (anions in particular) across cell membranes using supramolecular principles. Candidates should have strong background and completed Ph.D. studies in the field of organic chemistry. Broad interests in multidisciplinary approach (organic and physical chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology) and strong motivation will be highly appreciated. The applicant should send an e-mail containing:

a) a letter of motivation
b) CV
c) names of two persons that are willing to write letters of recommendation to kraus@uochb.cas.cz

The chosen candidate will be responsible for independent research work including organic synthesis, analytical characterization of products, physicochemical and biochemical studies.

Ph.D. positions open to EU students

(Czech students cannot apply due to funding restrictions)

2 × Ph.D. positions in the European training network FLUOR21 (FLUOR21: Synthesis, structure and function of fluorinated systems) to work in the groups of Dr. Petr Beier starting in September 2014.

Candidates fluent in English with good knowledge of organic chemistry, and experience in organic synthesis and spectroscopic characterization techniques please contact Dr. Petr Beier (beier@uochb.cas.cz)
