Professor Jan Fischer celebrated his 80th anniversary on April 26th, 2012. He works at the Institute of Physics since 1954 and was for many years head of the Department of High Energy Physics (now Division of Elementary Particle Physics). During the period of 1985-91 he was the head editor of the Czech. Journal of Physics B. Jan Fischer's extraordinary contribution to elementary particle physics has been extensively discussed on the occasion of his previous anniversaries in the Czechoslovak Journal of Physics [1, 2]. The main subject of his research has become the methods of analytic functions in particle physics.
On the occasion of birthday of Jan Fischer the gala seminar was held at the Institute of Physics, which was introduced by Professor Jiří Chýla. The main speaker was the closest Fischer's collaborator Irinel Caprini from Bucharest. She summarized the results of their common work with Jan Fischer on alternative expansions in quantum chromodynamics.

In his brief entry at the end of the seminar Jan Fischer thanked all his colleagues and partners in the discussions.
We wish Jan Fischer all the very best for the coming years!
