‘Quality research’ is an aim of CAS, the Czech Academy of Sciences’ new Strategy AV21. Results will benefit economic and social areas in the country, according to President Prof. Jiří Drahoš. He described this project to delegates attending the XLV Academy Assembly at the National House of Vinohrady, Prague Dec. 16, 2014. Strategy AV21 aims to strengthen the role of the Academy as an independent institution to provide quality research emphasizing the strategic orientation of its results for economic and social sectors,” he said. “It should greatly streamline the efficient transfer of research by direct engagement with our partners in higher education institutions, businesses and public administrations,” he added. “I firmly believe that the Academy’s current cooperative efforts will be given a new impulse by supporting specific projects of cooperation between the academic and business spheres while creating scientifically sound bases for political decision-making. Using human and material resources in specific research programmes contributes to increasing the efficiency and transparency of the use of public means,” Professor Drahoš said in conclusion.
Pavel Bělobrádek, Deputy Prime Minister for Science and Research, also addressing the Assembly affirmed that “scientific critical thinking is the greatest contribution of research as it also ensures society’s wellbeing and makes our lives easier. Science as a rational process is based precisely on that,” he asserted.
