prof. Ing. Michal Haindl, DrSc.

(born 1955 in Prague)

 

prof. Ing. Michal Haindl, DrSc. M. Haindl graduated in control engineering from the Czech Technical University (1979), Prague, received Ph.D. (CSc.) in technical cybernetics from the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1984) where he has been the head of the Pattern Recognition department (since 2002). He received the ScD (DrSc) degree (2001), became associate professor (2004) from the Czech Technical University, Prague and full professor (2010) from the West Bohemian University, Pilsen.

 

From 1990 to 1995, he was with the University of Newcastle, Newcastle; Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot; Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science, Amsterdam and Institute National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique, Rocquencourt working on several image analysis and pattern recognition projects.

Since 1983 his principal research interest is focused on visual data modelling and recognition. He published over 290 scientific publications in books, journal articles, and conference proceedings. He has been elected (2004) Fellow of the International Association of Pattern Recognition for contribution to the theory and practice of model-based pattern recognition; in 2011 he was awarded The Award of the CAS.


Recently he reads courses in FIT and FTS of the Czech Technical University and FMP of the Charles University; he is representative of the Czech Republic in the Governing Board of the International Association of Pattern Recognition, member of several committees of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics, and several scientific councils. He is the associate editor for three international journals.
