"Simplicity is a great virtue but it requires hard work to achieve it and education to appreciate it. And to make matters worse: complexity sells better." - E. W. Dijkstra

Department of Medical Informatics and Biostatistics

The department is devoted to research in theoretical as well as applied problems, while providing comprehensive support of interdisciplinary biomedical research and contributing to the implementation of information-based medicine.

Our Research Area

The research in the fields of biostatistics and medical informatics is devoted to a number of tasks, which are motivated by practical problems in various areas of medicine, mainly:

  • robust methods for analysis of high-dimensional genetic data
  • applications of statistical methods to clinical medicine, epidemiology, forensic genetics, psychometrics, and image analysis
  • study of exact statistical estimators
  • clinical decision support
  • electronic information sources in biomedicine
  • biometric identification in the research of IT security in biomedicine
