Euro's Suitability for the Czech Republic To Be Discussed during Debate of Leading Economists in New York
15 April, 2015
Prof Jan Švejnar, who was awarded the 2015 IZA prize, will participate in Columbia University's SIPA 2015 Leaders in Global Economic Governance Lecture: "Europe: The Current Situation and the Way Forward". The lecture will feature an address by Wolfgang Schäuble, Germany's Federal Minister of Finance. A panel discussion follows when Prof Švejnar will be joined by colleagues Joseph Stiglitz, Edmund Phelps and Alessandra Casella. You can watch the event live online from midnight CEST (6 p.m. EDT) on 15 April, 2015.
The discussion will tackle the future of the Eurozone and is likely to assess the suitability of Euro adoption in the Czech Republic and other Central European countries. This latter theme is also addressed in a study by Jan Švejnar and Vilém Semerák from IDEA at CERGE-EI titled “European Crisis: Monetary Disintegration and Its Impacts on the Czech Republic”.
