Euro's Suitability for the Czech Republic To Be Discussed during Debate of Leading Economists in New York

Prof Jan Švejnar, who was awarded the 2015 IZA prize, will participate in Columbia University's SIPA 2015 Leaders in Global Economic Governance Lecture: "Europe: The Current Situation and the Way Forward". The lecture will feature an address by Wolfgang Schäuble, Germany's Federal Minister of Finance. A panel discussion follows when Prof Švejnar will be joined by colleagues Joseph Stiglitz, Edmund Phelps and Alessandra Casella. You can watch the event live online from midnight CEST (6 p.m. EDT) on 15 April, 2015.

Jan Švejnar Wins 2015 IZA Prize in Labor Economics

The 2015 IZA Prize in Labor Economics goes to Jan Švejnar, James T. Shotwell Professor of Global Political Economy and Director of the Center on Global Economic Governance at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, New York and a Chairman of the Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE-EI in Prague. The Czech economist was recognized for his work on economic issues relating to labor, development and the transition from socialist to market economies.

New Economic Talent 2015 - Finalists Selected

138 students applied to this year’s New Economic Talent competition. They came from 94 universities and 55 countries. Of these, 120 papers were admitted to the first round.

CERGE-EI Alumni Event in London

Last Monday, CERGE-EI co-organized a panel discussion with the Legatum Institute and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London at the Legatum Institute's Mayfair headquarters. Jan Švejnar served as a panelist and a number of CERGE-EI's UK alumni were in attendance. The topic of the panel discussion was "The Shadow Economy - Impact on Innovation, East and West".
