Junior Group Leader - HBV biology

The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry in Prague invites applications for the position of Junior Group Leader in HBV research who would focus his or her program on fundamental unresolved questions of HBV biology (such as latent or occult HBV infection).

The institute requires completed education on the Ph.D. level, a substantial postdoctoral experience in the HBV field, and ability to lead a research team.

Salary of the leader and his/her co-workers is competitive and is based upon leader´s capabilities.
The Institute offers the possibility to build a group (with up to 5 co-workers), fully equipped laboratory, including a professionally run BL3 facility, and Generous startup financial package.
We are interested in strong creative personalities who would lead the HBV effort at the institute, bring in their own research program and take advantage of the institute`s strong research infrastructure in modern Organic, Bioorganic, Medicinal and Theoretical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as well as in established partnerships with pharma industry.

This tenure-track position is comparable to an Assistant Professor at a US university, or to a new investigator position at the Max Planck Institutes. IOCB aims to enhance its character as an international research center and applications from non-Czech scientists are encouraged.

Laboratory Research Technician - Dr. Norbert Weiss Group

We are looking for an enthusiastic full-time Research Technician to joint the group "Ion Channels & Diseases" based at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry in Prague, Czech Republic.

Our group is directed toward the understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal human diseases caused by dysfunction of ion channels, so-called channelopathies. The laboratory especially studies various aspects of neuronal voltage-gated calcium channels using a combination of electrophysiological recording (patch-clamp), molecular (PCR, cloning, site directed mutagenesis) and biochemistry (immunoblot, immunoprecipitation) techniques, immunocytochemistry and confocal imaging microscopy to analyse the mechanisms of sorting and trafficking of those channels, regulation pathways, and contribution to neuronal excitability. For more information, please see theweisslab.com.

The successful candidate will assist our laboratory research by providing a wide range of technical assistance. Major responsability of the role holder will include primary / immortal neuronal cell culture, cell transfection, general lab maintenance, and administrative assistance. Techniques used may include but are not limited to: immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy, and basic molecular biology and biochemistry.

The successful candidate will hold a M.Sc. in Biological sciences or an equivalent qualification and will have experience with primary neuronal cell culture and transfection. The candidate should be proficient in english.

Interested candidates should send their resume/CV (in english), brief description of their research interests, and the names and contact information of 2 references to Norbert Weiss (weiss@uochb.cas.cz).

Postdoctoral Fellow - Dr. Kvido Stříšovský Group

A suitable candidate will hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology or a related discipline, be capable of independent work and have experience with mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques. Experience in apoptosis and/or membrane proteins will be a significant advantage. Knowledge of English is required, excellent work ethics, bench skills and willingness to learn are necessary. We offer a stimulating working environment in an international team and salary commensurate to experience.

Duration: initially for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Starting date immediately.
