Activities
Our activity is focused on research and diagnostics of optical materials and thin films prepared by various plasma-chemical methods.
All main activities are focused primarily on the
SAFMAT project, it means the Centre for Analysis of Functional Materials.
The goal of the SAFMAT project is to create a modern laboratory with the top-class technological equipment for research purposes.
The project is aimed at:
••• Analysis of new materials from the viewpoint of atomic composition and structure, which is one of the most demanding branches of experimental physics of materials
••• The metrology of thin films in the field of nanotechnologies.
••• Analysis of technologically important centres and structural defects responsible for localisation of electric charge in semiconducting, magnetic and other materials. The method used – electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) – is well suited for determination of concentration, charge state, valence and electronic structure of these centres on atomic scale, and the nature of their incorporation into the host structure.

An another importnat project of our department is
FUNBIO, the Centre of
Functional Materials for
Bio-applications.
The FUNBIO project is expanding modern analytical methods for materials on the border between the organic and inorganic world; the materials used for example in advanced medical applications, which on the one hand require demanding structural and functional characterization, and on the other hand they are ready for contact or are already in contact with the biological environment.
The aim of the project is to keep the position of Czech science in the world class level and to bring new characterization methods into bioapplication research of functional materials in the Czech Republic.
