In 1968, he was awarded profesorship from Charles University in Prague and founded the Institute for Theory and Methodology of Science at Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, which was dismantled later for political reasons. In 1990 prof. Tondl assisted the founding of the Centre for Science, Technology, and Society Studies and remains its active member till these days. He counts among the foremost Czech philosophers namely in issues of science and semiotics. His writings, published in many countries, had an impact in several disciplines, such as semantics, semiotics, philosophy of language, logic, epistemology, infromatics, philosophy of science and technology.
