No one doubts that the invention of lasers has not only changed the world of technology but also the lives of the general public. The first laser beamed in California in 1960 and then in spring of 1963 in the Czech Republic. November 30, 2013 will mark the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first laser university course which focused on teaching laser physics.

A board member of the multinational company Siemens - Klaus Helmrich, who is responsible for research and development activities, visited our Institute on 25 March 2013. After this visit, we open the possibility of future cooperation with the multinational company.
A group of European science journalists EUSJA (European Association of Journalists) visited our detached laboratory in Lysolaje on 15 March, 2013
The newly built Nanotechnology Laboratory was officially opened on March 14, 2013. The celebration was attended by the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic prof. Jiří Drahoš and the Vice-Chairman prof. Miroslav Tuma.

Laboratoř optických vláken se v sobotu 9.6.2012 mezi 19. a 1. hodinou ranní zúčastnila doprovodné akce "Věda a technika v srdci Dejvic" pořádané v Národní technické knihovně v rámci Pražská muzejní noci 2012.

For achievements in optical biosensing, Assoc. Prof. Jiří Homola, Ph.D., DSc. was elected SPIE Fellow.
The new chairman of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Ing. Jiří Čtyroký, DrSc. was elected on sixth October 2011.
