Topics in set theory: Traces of large cardinals, variants of Hechler's theorem, and ultrafilters on countable sets
-
-
Objectives:
The goal of the project is to expand the collaboration between specialists working in different areas of Set Theory. We shall, in particular, try to exploit the complementary expertise of the Czech and Austrian teams while solving problems on the borders of traditional areas of research (large cardinals, forcing, infinitary combinatorics, topology) and encourage mutual cross-fertilization and inspiration sharing. The main goal is to encourage new members of both Czech and Austrian research teams to interact in join international research, to explore new possibilities for scientific collaboration, and to introduce international contacts enabling applications for funding with more ambitious join projects in future years.

Multilevel supervisory control
-
-
Programme type: KONTAKT II
Objectives:
The aim of the project is to develop techniques to decrease computational complexity of supervisory control of discrete-event systems with large number of states. Both automata with known modular structure given by the synchronous product of smaller components and large automata without such a structure will be considered. Standard centralized control methods cannot be applied for complexity reasons, and therefore, we will propose multi-level coordination control with hierarchical structure of the coordinators on different layers for different groups of subsystems. It will be based on the single-level coordination control with one central coordinator that we have recently developed. These efficient techniques will be applied to decentralized control of systems without known modular structure. As a by-product communication protocols between groups of subsystems given by the structure of coordinators on different levels of hierarchy will be obtained.

Algebraic classification of tensors on Lorentzian manifolds and its applications
-
-
Objectives:
We will search for exact vacuum solutions of generalized theories of gravity using the algebraic classification of tensors and the generalization of the Geroch-Held-Penrose formalism to higher dimensions co-developed by our department. Particular focus is on so called universal solutions – vacuum solutions to all theories of gravity derived from the Lagrangian constructed from the metric, the Riemann tensor and its arbitrary covariant derivatives. Another objective is to develop a refinement of the algebraic classifications of tensors in five dimensions.
