CERGE-EI and the EC Directorate-General

CERGE-EI, together with GHK, form the Core team coordinating European Employment Observatory (EEO) which contributes to developing the European Employment Strategy (EES) by providing information, comparative research, and evaluation on employment policies and labour market trends in the countries in the EU and EU candidate countries.
The EEO consists of the Core Team (GHK/CERGE-EI) and EEO Networks (Community System of Documentation on Employment - SYSDEM and Mutual Information System on Employment Policies in Europe - MISEP). There are also 20 thematic experts who are available to the EEO to undertake ad hoc research on pan-European themes.
The Core Team's task is to achieve the best possible integration and higher visibility of the work of the Observatory. This is done through the provision of high quality and up to date information and research and the provision of ad hoc services to the European Commission (DG Employment, Equal Opportunities and Social Affairs). The core team coordinates the activities of the EEO networks, liaises with the Commission, and processes expert contributions into regular reports for the Commission, as well as written publications and a public website. The Core Team also produces a monthly EEO newsletter. A quarterly overview of country-level developments in the key employment policy areas can be found in an Executive Summary.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2009, CERGE-EI and GHK created a consortium assisting the European Commission in carrying out the Mutual Learning Programme. The main objectives of this programme have been to encourage and facilitate Member States to learn from each others' experiences and to enhance the transferability of best practices of labour market policies in priority areas of the Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs.
A summary of the main outcomes and policy messages emanating from the MLP activities within the overarching theme is provided in the Synthesis reports.
