Governance

CERGE-EI has two main governing bodies. The Executive and Supervisory Committee is composed of internationally recognized economists, tenured faculty at CERGE-EI, and representatives of Charles University in Prague and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The Committee primarily ensures that the highest academic standards are upheld. The Board of Trustees grants PhD in Economics, MA in Economics and MA in Applied Economics degrees within the US permanent charter of CERGE-EI based on the recommendations of the faculty. The Board also makes promotion (tenure) decisions in consultation with the Executive and Supervisory Committee.

There are further governing bodies of CERGE and the Economics Institute, which constitute the joint workplace. The governing bodies of CERGE include the Scientific Council, which primarily reviews and advises on CERGE’s research and educational activities, and the Graduation Council, which regulates CERGE’s doctoral study program and the organization of its postgraduate study in economics. The Economic Institute’s (EI) governance structure comprises the Supervisory Board, which has a supervisory and advisory role, the Board of the institute which is the basic organ of EI academics and researchers, and the Academic Assembly.
