Overview of Activities

In this section, you will find a list of the activities and services from all of the areas the CAO deals with.

Legal consultation and patent and licensing services
The Legal Department ensures all of the legal agenda indispensible for the activity of the CAO. It further coordinates and methodologically directed in cooperation with the Academic Council of the ASCR, workplaces of the ASCR in the area of the performance of property rights of public research institutes and conducts legal analyses for cases of the theft of property in the ownership of the workplaces.
Issuance of publications
Academia publishes original scientific monographs and the works of Czech scientists, works of the classics of science, translations of foreign authors, popular educational literature, nonfiction, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, language textbooks, handbooks and university textbooks but also high-quality Czech and translated literature. The popular educational magazine Živa is also issued in the publishing house.
Publication of the Academic Bulletin
Academic bulletin is the magazine of the Academy of Sciences of the CR, which comes out eleven times a year, always around the 10th day of the month.
Issuance of the magazine Živa
The popular science magazine provides reviewed articles from the biological fields.
Bookshops
Academia operates a network of bookshops in Prague, Brno and Ostrava.
Conferences, workshops, seminars
The Division of Conference and Hotel Establishments ensures and manages the operation of conference and hotel establishments of the CAO, ASCR, v. v. i. with the aim of providing lodging, gastronomic, conference and accompanying services.

Popularisation of Science and Marketing
The main aim of the Department of Popularisation of Science and Marketing is to bring closer through individual promotional events, popularisation activities, exhibitions and projects the activity of the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the CR and thus popularise science and research for the general public. It is further to ensure marketing activities both for the CAO and the Head Office of the ASCR, to contribute to the greater awareness of the institutes of the full spectrum of all of the products and services of the CAO.
Projects and grants
The Centre of Administration and Operations of the ASCR, v.v.i. has established a Department of Projects and Grants within the Division of External Relations for the purposes of acquisition and administration of subsidised titles.
Operation of hotels, restaurants and lodging facilities
The Division of Conference and Hotel Establishments ensures and manages the operation of conference and hotel establishments of the CAO, ASCR, v. v. i. with the aim of providing lodging, gastronomic, conference and accompanying services.
Building section, properties
The Division of Property Administration and Services ensures the construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of the non-movable property of the CAO, institutes of the ASCR and the ASCR, administration and rental of property and manages a broad flat and lodging fund.
Property Administration
The Department of Property Administration offers a high level of complex services in the area of the administration of property. We help the scientific workplaces of the ASCR, or even other entities, optimise the costs for the operation of buildings and other non-movable property.
Road transport
The main task of the Operations Department is to ensure the proper running of the building in Prague 1, Národní 3-7 and thus provide a reliable base for all of the entities based there. Besides the CAO itself, there are primarily the management of the ASCR and its organs, the Head Office of the ASCR, the Library of the ASCR and the Czech Science Foundation.
Webhosting, mailhosting, IT Service
The Department of Information and Communication Technology ensures the development and operation of the technical and program equipment of the computer technology of the Head Office and CAO; in these areas, it provides consultative, methodological and specialised assistance to the workplaces of the ASCR and ensures multi-licence contracts for them. It amasses and processes the latest data on the ASCR, creates and updates the central website of the ASCR, published informational materials for the needs of the workplaces of the ASCR and the Academic Assembly, specialised sections of the Head Office, CAO and possibly workplaces of the ASCR.
Economic information systems
The main function of the Department of Information Systems is the uniform provision of the administration and development of the iFIS, Elanor Global and Verso economic information, possibly others for the workplaces of the ASCR. The object of these activities include particularly user support, creation of an environment for reporting and summarising data from the ASCR, methodological and consultative activity and responsibility for the further development of the systems and their superstructures.
Audiovisual technology and producing of audiovisual works
The main aim of the Department of Audiovisual Technology is to assist the ASCR and its individual institutes in the effective utilisation of audiovisual technology. It provides consultative and advisory services. It ensures videoconference connections, video broadcasts and e-learning via electronic networks.
Departments of Flats and Lodging Facilities
The main function of the Department of Flats and Lodging Establishments is the administration of the flat management of the ASCR; there are more than flat units. The usage of the flats in question is in the regime of rent regulation, a significant part of the flats (particularly those allotted in recent years) have the status of service flats tied to the employment of the renter at the ASCR.
