Postdoctoral Position at the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic
Closing date: 15 September 2015
Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic invites applications for post-doctoral positions in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Astronomical Institute applies to the Czech Academy of Sciences to fund a postdoctoral position. The deadline for applicants is 15th September and the results of the selection process will be announced by the Academy committee about 3 months later. The starting date of the employment is expected on 1st January 2016.
We are Public Research Institution and the largest professional astronomical organization in the Czech Republic, located at Ondrejov Observatory and in Prague. A successful applicant will collaborate with researchers in our scientific departments and working groups. Experience in one of the subjects studied at the Institute is valued but independent new projects will be also considered; in both cases a strong point has to be demonstrated because the number of applications usually exceeds the number of available positions quite significantly (in the previous year we obtained four positions from Academy).
For further information about the Institute, see (http://www.asu.cas.cz), and for information about the research employment in Czech Republic see (http://www.euraxess.cz).
The appointment is initially for one year; an extension for another year is expected upon satisfactory scientific performance and availability of funds. A necessary condition is to satisfy legal requirements for the employment in Czech Republic (EU member state). Salary will be based on the domestic level and it includes health insurance in the Czech Republic.
In a cover letter please indicate the working group you intend to join. Applicants should contact a faculty member with whom they wish to work for further information and to define a joint research programme. This is considered to be an important part of the proposal.
Applications (containing Curriculum Vitae, List of Publications, and Summary of Research Plans) can be submitted by email to:
sekretariat@asu.cas.cz with subject: "postdoc 2016” (pdf file please).
Please provide the exact date of PhD defense. Applications can be submitted before finishing PhD, in which case a statement from the supervisor stating the planned date of the defense should be included. Preferences will be given to applicants up to two years after PhD defense (degree awarded after 1st January 2014). Successful candidates must hold PhD degree in the field and present a certificate by the date of employment at the latest.
Please arrange for two recommendation letters to be sent directly (the same electronic address as above). Applications will be acknowledged by email and a signed confirmation will be requested from eligible applicants.
