Outline of organisation of archaeological monument preservation in Czech Republic (Bohemia)

The executive body for the protection of archeological resources consists of the relevant state authorities who are responsible for the enforcement of the national preservation of monuments in their area (district offices, magistrates). Apart from the Archeological Institutes of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic specialist bodies are “legitimate organisations according to the wording of §21, par.2 of the cited law (state institutes for the preservation of monuments, institutes for the preservation of archeological monuments, museums and non-profit companies”. These are entrusted with the care of a certain territory by permission of the Ministery of Culture of the Czech Republic and by agreements with the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. The legitimate organizations in listed can be offered nation-wide, regional or district level cover. These organisations must then undertake responsibility for the preservation of archeological monuments in the entrusted territory in concordance with the decisions of the executive authorities for the national preservation of monuments.
