Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences Awarded to Angus Deaton

13 October, 2015

The CERGE-EI community is delighted that The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for 2015 to Angus Deaton (Princeton University) for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare.

“To design economic policy that promotes welfare and reduces poverty, we must first understand individual consumption choices. More than anyone else, Angus Deaton has enhanced this understanding. By linking detailed individual choices and aggregate outcomes, his research has helped transform the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and development economics.” states the official press release.

Angus Deaton served as a member of CERGE-EI’s Executive and Supervisory Committee from 1996 to 1999. He presented his latest research on a visit to CERGE-EI in May 2015 for a conference titled "International Comparison of Income, Prices and Production".
