Global Development Network
CERGE-EI is the Central and East European (CEE) Regional Network representative for the Global Development Network (GDN), a leading International Organization of developing and transition country researchers, policy and research institutes promoting the generation, sharing, and application to policy of multidisciplinary knowledge for the purpose of development. The CEE region is comprised of 16 countries speaking 13 languages.
About GDN
The Global Development Network (GDN) is an independent International Organization that allies researchers and institutes in development globally. Founded in 1999, GDN is headquartered in New Delhi, with offices in Cairo and Washington D.C. GDN's core objective is to build and foster research capacity. GDN supports researchers in developing and transition countries 'to generate and share applied social science research to advance social and economic development. Its aspiration is to achieve a critical mass of researchers who are globally interconnected and produce good research to impact public policy. GDN works in collaboration with eleven Regional Network Partners (RNPs) and a worldwide network of research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks, over 11,000 individual researchers globally, and various international donor organizations and governments.
Activities
These networks help in supporting the core activities of GDN, which together serve the goals of building research excellence, promoting networking, expanding outreach and shaping global policy debates in developing and transition countries:

Inter-regional Research Projects (IRPs) - two regions joining to focus on a specific topic of mutual interest
- Regional Research Competitions (RRCs) - building research excellence and supporting local knowledge
- GDNet - research communications from & for the global south
- Awards & Medals Competitions - awarded at each annual conference, building research excellence and recognizing innovative ideas
- Annual Global Development Conferences - facilitating local, regional and global perspectives on current development debates
Regional Partners
Each Regional Partner plays a significant role in assessing the region's research priorities and develops the basic framework for managing the RRC and IRPs. GDNet is managed in the Cairo office, though each partner is responsible for maintaining its own regional pages and communications strategy.
