Údolí smrti (Death Valley) v Kalifornii je proslulé vysokými průměrnými teplotami a nízkými srážkami (asi 40 mm ročně). V zimě r. 2005 zde napršelo neobvyklých 150 mm srážek, což umožnilo hromadné kvetení různých druhů rostlin vázaných na toto nehostinné prostředí.

Death Valley in California is world-famous for its high average air temperature values and low precipitation (approx. 40 mm in the course of a year). In the winter of 2005, there was unusual rainfall reaching 150 mm, which caused mass blooming of the various plant species occurring in this inhospitable habitat.
