Practical Workshop in Applied Economics

Decision Making Under Uncertainty by Michael Hagan

Thursday, 22 October, 2015 at 13:00 at CERGE-EI, Politických vězňů 7, Prague 1

In a perfect world we would understand every situation and act with certainty.  But what happens when the world is less than perfect and the information we have is complex? One of the ways to organize information is through decision trees. In this workshop we will develop a decision tree, populate it with data and examine the results together. It is a hands-on, interactive approach to the issue of making decisions under uncertainty.

The model can be applied to other disciplines such as business or finance. The workshop does not require in-depth knowledge of economics or statistics. Conducted by Michael Hagan, DrPH, Adjunct professor at Northwestern University.

Duration: approximately 2 hours
Criteria: 1st-3rd year university students, older students also welcome
Cost: free
Capacity: 20 participants

About the facilitator:

Michael Hagan, DrPH is a health economics expert. He has been providing solutions to global commercialization of pharmaceutical products for the last 22 years. About the author of the course:

Aswath DamodaranProfessor Aswath Damodaran is a respected advisor on valuation and analysis to many investment banks on Wall Street. He has taught at the Stern School of Business at New York University since 1986. He has been voted "Professor of the Year" by the NYU graduating MBA class 5 times during his career.  He makes most of his teaching materials available online via his website.

“There are times I wish that I could clone myself and teach in a dozen places at the same time, including Prague. Since I don’t have the power to do that, the Corporate Finance Course prepared by CERGE-EI graduate Jindřich Gallo may be the next best option. I hope that my material forms the basis for a good valuation class but I believe that valuation is a craft you learn by doing. As you work through your valuation issues, I will try to make some live experiences to answer your questions. I hope to see you there.”
