Abstract: Cytokinins (CKs) are often considered abscisic acid (ABA) antagonists in many processes including the regulation of stomatal opening. The delay of stomatal closure induced by water stress or ABA by application of cytokinin benzyladenine (BA) was observed in previous experiments (Pospisilova 2003). With the aim to elucidate the mechanism of these interactions we followed 1) changes in gas exchange parameters during water stress and subsequent rehydration as affected by pre-treatment with ABA or BA, 2) water stress-induced accumulation of endogenous ABA as affected by application of BA, and 3) water-stress induced changes in endogenous CKs.
