Dr Jan Balon, PhD in Sociology (Charles University in Prague, 2005), works as a head of the department and researcher at Centre for Science, Technology and Society Studies (at Institute of Philosophy, The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic). His areas of research and teaching interest comprise philosophy and history of science, sociological theory and historical epistemology. In the years 2009–2010, his research on theoretical legacy of American sociology realized at Northwestern University was funded by Fulbright Commission. He published several books on intellectual and institutional history of social science, most recently Sociology in the United States: Historical Contextualizations (2011).
