Program Details
Real life problem solving is at the core of this program:
- Unique Interventions module is based on both cutting edge research and fieldwork.
- Group client project is run consulting-style for clients committed to implementing the results in their work. If you have an impactful project of your own, you can petition to work on it during the summer semester for credit.
- Most elective classes are run by experts from the field.

The program is divided into three semesters, each 13 weeks long. You will study full-time for one full academic year. Please note, however, that the Fall Semester is very difficult to do part time.
To graduate, you need to take the classes listed below with a cumulative GPA of at least 1.75, and pay all your tuition fees.
- 6 core courses (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Quantitative methods 1+2, Statistical programming, Group client project)
- 5-7 elective courses
- 2 courses from the Interventions module (students can take either 7 electives, or 5 electives + Interventions module)
- 3 Communication classes (Effective Communication for Applied Economists, and Communicating for Impact 1+2)
- 2 pass/fail courses (Intensive Mathematical Review, Personal Professional Development)
Each course meets twice weekly for two 90-minute sessions. Courses often have an additional 90-minute exercise session. If possible, no classes are schedule on Fridays. Download the sample class schedule for current Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
Taking three or more electives in a given area will grant you a specialization:
- Financial Economics,
- Public Policy,
- Macroeconomics and Forecasting, or
- Corporate Economics.
The MA in Applied Economics is a US-chartered degree, nostrificated in the Czech Republic by Masaryk University.
