Team leaders:

The newly established Nano Optics group focuses on advancing the knowledge of light-matter interactions below the diffraction limit of light as well as development of novel experimental methods that address current topics in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry.

Team leaders:
Jiří Homola

The team is engaged in the research of photonic and plasmonic (nano) structures and functional biomolecular files, the development of optical measuring methods and systems, the study of biomolecular interactions and detection of chemical and biological agents in areas such as medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

Team leaders:
Michal Cifra

The team focuses on research of high-frequency and photonic biosignals.

Team leaders:
Alexander Kuna

Research in the Time and Frequency Department is focused on ultra-sensitive short-term frequency stability measurement at low radio frequency in ambient temperature, both in time and frequency (spectral) domains. Research also concerns applications of the dual-mixer time-difference multiplication method in accurate measurement of short time-delays in electronic components.

Team leaders:
Pavel Honzátko

Research covers the high power fiber lasers and their use for material processing, medicine and nonlinear optics.

Team leaders:
Jan Lorinčík

Activity of the department is focused on the characterization of materials and structures destined for use in optoelectronics and microelectronics. Major attention has been paid to III-V materials, binaries GaP, InP, GaAs and GaSb, ternaries InGaP, AlGaAs and quaternary InGaAsP. Some other materials like semiconductors Si, CdTe, CdZnTe or chalcogen glasses have been also investigated. Main areas of research include ionization processes of sputtered particles during ion bombardment of semiconductor surfaces, deep level impurities and point defects introduced into semiconductors, radiative and non-radiative processes in semiconductors, charge transport effects in semiconductors and theoretical investigation of 1D and 2D photonic crystals.
