Martin Čihák

Martin Čihák is Lead Economist for Financial and Private Sector Development in the World Bank Group. He is the Task Team Leader for the Global Financial Development Report (worldbank.org/financialdevelopment), a major new publication of the World Bank Group on financial development around the world. Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Martin worked as a Deputy Division Chief in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). His work has been focused on issues relating to financial sector regulation and supervision, financial stability, and financial system reforms.

Before joining the PhD program at CERGE-EI in 1995, Martin earned MA degrees in economics and law at the Charles University in Prague. He began working with the IMF in 2000. Prior to that, he was a chief analyst at Komerční banka, a lecturer at the Charles University and Prague School of Economics, and an advisor to the Czech Minister of Justice. He defended his thesis, titled "Essays on Inflation and Monetary Policy" in 2002.
