Cardiovascular Morphogenesis

Cardiovascular Morphogenesis Epicardial activation maps showing spreading of action potential by measuring calcium transients in a three days old embryonic chick heart.

We study cardiovascular development with a special emphasis on the cardiac conduction system. Our research is at present focused mainly on:

  • Study of influence epigenetic factors on heart development.
  • Analysis of mechanisms of embryonic heart failure.
  • Development and implementation of novel imaging techniques to study embryonic myocardial architecture as a substrate for preferential conduction pathways in the developing heart.
  • Analysis of mouse mutants with embryonic arrhythmias and perturbations of myocardial architecture.

These topics are currently supported by GACR grant P302/11/1308 entitled "Epigenetic factors in myocardial morphogenesis" and 13-12412S “Development of mouse conduction system analyzed by 3D imaging and optical mapping”.
