Department of Fundamental Topics

In the department of fundamental themes the research is concentrated to problems of basic aspects on informatics and artificial intelligence from theory of algorithms and number theory, theory of neural networks, statistical and multidimensional computation models to biologically inspired computational approaches.

Our Research Area

Members of the department pursue a research in theoretical foundations of computer science and artificial intelligence with emphases on the following subjects:

  • number theory and its applications, reliable computing, interval analysis
  • complexity and computability theory; complexity of algorithms; philosophical aspects of computing
  • mathematical theory of neurocomputing and machine learning
  • combinatorial problems in matrix theory
  • statistical models and inference
  • developments and analyses of numerical methods and algorithms in contact mechanics
  • design, processing and evaluation of mathematical models in biomechanics
  • data classification with the use of their fractal nature
  • bio-inspired computational methods for man computer interaction, humanoid control and large data analysis

Seminar

The department runs a regular seminar Hora Informaticae, that has been founded in 1993. The seminar is devoted to theory and practice of informatics.
