RIV – Information Register of R&D results

Access to the database

The RIV is a database of research and development results financed from the public funds of the Czech Republic. The database has been established according to Act No. 130/2002, Coll., on supporting R&D from public funds to evaluate the R&D results of the research institutes – the beneficiaries of the funds.

The RIV is part of the R&D Information System in the Czech Republic of the Czech Section of Research, Development and Innovation. Its professional and advisory body (presided by the Prime Minister) is the Council for Research, Development and innovation

The Council defines the types of results that can be entered into the RIV, as well as the list of peer-reviewed periodicals and The Methodology of Results Evaluation. It also lays down the criteria for rejecting certain results from the evaluation and defines procedures for the evaluation. In the final stage, the Council implements the evaluation of results of the research organisations.

Caution: the ASEP codes differ from the RIV codes, ASEP x RIV.

How to make RIV entries

The RIV entries are made once a year by the fund providers (The Czech Science Foundation, Czech ministries, etc.). Results linked to research plans (the CEZ database) are provided by the Czech Academy of Sciences; results linked to projects (the CEP database) are provided by grant agencies, i.e. the fund providers.

The data is usually sent to the providers (using the complete entries in the ASEP database) and to the RIV in April. Then they are evaluated.

Once the data is sent to the providers, in the ARL system (the system for the ASEP entries) changes the year when the data was gathered. The data gathered later is sent to the RIV the following year.

Evaluation of the RIV results

Evaluation in the RIV takes place in four stages. The institutions get the RIV tables containing either rejected entries, or entries with irregularities that could be rejected later. In some cases, the rejection can be disputed. If the Section of Research, Development and Innovation acknowledges the objections, the result should be evaluated again – this applies mainly to the results provided by authors with multiple affiliations.
