EXPERTISSUES

The EXPERTISSUE belongs to the Network of Excellence (NoE) projects under the 6th FP of EU (Contract No.: NMP3-500283-2). The aim of the project is to bring together leading European academic centers and several complementary industrial partners in the area of regenerative medicine and biomaterials to provide new tissue engineering technologies for therapeutic purposes. Although the main focus of the project is on new constructs and technologies applicable to regenerative therapy of bone and cartilage defects, the research activities cover also fundamental aspects of assisted tissue regeneration in broader sense. Within this interdisciplinary effort, the role of the team from the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry CAS consists in developing new polymer biomaterials, which could be used for formation of scaffolds, 3D structures supporting cell growth and organized tissue formation. In particular, the research is focused on the design and characterization of bioactive surfaces of polymer biomaterials carrying biomimetic structures that exhibit specific interactions with cell surface receptors and through which the cell behavior at biomaterial-tissue interfaces could be controlled.
