PROJECTS:

• Protein array development for cancer biomarker discovery and validation by means of label-free surface plasmon resonance technique. Collaboration with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Public Health Sciences Division, Seattle.
  • Developed a new label-free immunosensor for screening of cancer and normal human sera for presence of ALCAM with sensitivity comparable to conventional ELISA.
  • Antibodies to several candidate protein markers were selected with highest sensitivity and specificity to target detection from human plasma and cell lysate.
• Detection of various analytes (viruses, toxins) in complex matrices by SPR biosensor. Collaboration with Dr. Stacey Etheridge at the Food and Drug Administration, College Park.
  • Developed assay for sensitive detection of tetrodotoxin (TTX) in puffer fish matrix based on inhibition assay format.
  • Provided research advice to collaborators to successful validation of the developed TTX assay in inter-laboratory study.
• Characterization and functionalization of novel non-fouling biomaterials.
  • Optimized method to rapid and sensitive zwitterionic polymer characterization by combination of AFM and SPR spectroscopy.
  • Characterized super nonfouling surfaces in terms of non-specific binding from complex media including 100% blood plasma.
  • Developed a procedure to effective functionalization of novel zwitterionic polymer surfaces for biosensor and biomedical applications.

2003 –2007

Investigation of immobilization methods for functionalization of immunosensors and protein/DNA/RNA chips.

• Developed a highly sensitive and specific sensor to detection of antibody against Epstein-Barr virus in human serum.
• Developed a methodology to investigating oligonucleotide interactions at subnanomolar level for antisense drug development.
• Label-free DNA array based on SPR imaging towards the parallelized screening of oligonucleotide interactions.
• Led a biosensor group (5 people, 2005-2007). Responsible for successful projects performance and results presentations. Managed laboratory technicians.
