Koncepce projektu je společným dílem UNICRI (United Nations
Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute), HEUNI (European
Institute for Crime Prevention and Control) a Statistics Canada.
Projekt je koordinován prostřednictvím realizačního týmu (International
Project Team), jehož členy jsou zástupci výše zmíněných tří organizací.
Realizace výzkumu umožňuje vytvoření cenného zdroje poznatků jak z
hlediska obsahového, tak metodologického: vedlejším cílem projektu je
rozpracování metodiky zjišťování rozsahu a podob domácího násilí v
rodinách. Získané poznatky budou mimo jiné tvořit bázi pro případná
doporučení v oblasti legislativy s cílem prevence a zmírnění následků
domácího násilí. Vzhledem k mezinárodnímu zaštítění projektu je
metodologie společná pro všechny účastnící se země. Data budou pořízena
na reprezentativním souboru dospělé ženské populace (starší 18 let),
velikost výběrového vzorku činí minimálně 2000 respondentek.

The first part of the paper looks at the main objectives of the research, the areas it targeted, and its methodological approaches, and the second part summarises some of the main observations that the research led to. In the closing part of the paper an analysis is made of the factors contributing to an increase or decrease in the risk of the victimisation of women, especially with regard to the characteristics of the female respondents in the survey.
This study examines the results of the International Violence Against Women Survey (IVAWS) in the
Czech Republic and addresses the wider issues of domestic violence in partner relationships. The first

The chapter examines gender aspects of domestic violence and places it in the general gender system of western societies. It explains the high incidence of domestic violence against the backdrop of different gender expectations and orders for women and men and draws attention to the importance of social transformation for upsetting the traditional gender roles of men and women, which may then be one of the factors for an increasing incidence of domestic violence.
The chapter analyses supplementary open questions concerning the experience of domestic violence. Thanks to qualitative analysis it offers answers to some questions which the quantitative survey could capture only partially (motivations and experience of violence, reflection of one’s own behavior, recommendations). Based on the analysis, it presents recommendations concerning the support from doctors, psychologists and police in addressing the issue of domestic violence.
