On the 2nd and 3rd June 2016 was held a joint seminar: Cross-border Expert Talks "Carbide-, Cermet- and Ceramic Coatings" at IPP.
The meeting took place in the central lecture room of the main building of IPP.
As the headline of the seminar suggests “Cross-border Expert Talks” it was a meeting jointly
organized by the
Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials
(ASMET) and IPP. In particular,
ASMET Technical Committee on Thermal Spraying has approached Department of
Materials Engineering of IPP with a suggestion to exchange knowledge on various aspects of thermal
spraying of Carbide-, Cermet- and Ceramic Coatings “across the border”.
The meeting offered several invited lectures and other contributions by the experts from
Austria, the Czech Republic and also from Germany, e.g.
Prof. Dr. Robert Vaßen, Deputy Director and Head of Department of Materials for
power plant technology, Forschungszentrum Jülich;
Prof. Dr.Walter Lengauer, Head of the Physical Metallurgy Group, Vienna University
of Technology;
Dr. Lutz-Michael Berger, Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems
IKTS, Dresden etc.
From the Czech side a view pic from the perspective of industrial applications was given by
the former CEO and Chairman of the Board of Škoda Power and ČKD Group
Dipl.- Ing. Jan Musil, Ph.D, who himself had been in the past an excellent
scientist in the field of thermal spray. Current Czech research in the field was presented by
Ing. Šárka Houdková - Šimůnková, Ph.D. from the Centre of New Technologies and
Materials, University of West Bohemia in Plzeň and two researchers of the Institute of Plasma
Physics
- Ing. Tomáš Chráska, Ph.D.
Ing. Radek Mušálek, Ph.D. The second day of the seminar were organized two field
trips to modern thermal spray shop of
Solar Turbines EAME Ltd. company in the industrial zone near Žatec and the
second to the
Laboratory of
Plasma Technologies of IPP in Prague.
