The laboratory works on electrochemical preparation of silicon nanocrystals (with sizes of several nanometers only) and on experimental investigation of their optical properties, in particular luminescence. Besides the basic problems connected with an understanding of relevant processes of radiative recombination in nanoparticles, an important motivation factor for this type of research lies in application potential of these nanoparticles for novel sources of optical radiation in the so called silicon nanophotonics.
